The Blake at Taos Ski Valley

The Blake Hotel at Taos Ski Valley is the signature boutique hotel that epitomizes the new renaissance at Taos Ski Valley and acts as the centerpiece of the new base area.  Zehren designed The Blake as the “crown jewel” of the redevelopment efforts at Taos Ski Valley.  The hotel sits within the heart of the new development area, and as such fronts on the pedestrian plaza and has direct access to the ski mountain.  The building includes the luxury hotel, as well as private residences, a spa, fitness center, retail shops, ski rental and service, and an intimate, New-Mexican-inspired tapas bar and lounge.

The architecture of The Blake Hotel reflects the unique heritage of the Taos Ski Valley, originally developed by Ernie Blake and his family.  It is based on a balance of influences from historic Taos and the Austrian alpine heritage that evolved in the original Village development.  This includes classic alpine forms of gable roofs, plaster walls, and projecting loggia and balconies of timber, combined with patterns of detailing, fabrics, and tiles that reflect the artistic heritage of Taos.  As part of the hotel development, great care was taken to restore and enhance the natural creek just to the north of the site.  This effort included stream restoration, flood management mitigation, landscape enhancements, and improved public access to this important natural amenity in the heart of the Village.

The Blake contains 65 guest rooms, 15 suites, and 9 condominium units, and has become the catalyst for redevelopment within the resort, by establishing a renewed identity with a unique architectural design that complements the existing built environment, while respecting the natural alpine setting.

The Blake Hotel is a LEED Certified Gold facility and is partially powered via geothermal wells within the ski slopes.
