The JEC (Rizk) Residence sits on a very steeply-sloping, difficult site within the Briar Patch neighborhood of Vail and was constructed with soil-nailed walls on the uphill side.  The home makes use of the “courtyard” parti common in Mexico, from where the owners hailed.  This courtyard parti was adapted for ski country through the use of a heated courtyard and single-story masses all around the courtyard to allow sun into the space and keep snow accumulation to a minimum.

The 5,900-SF custom residence boasts stunning views of the Gore Range, along with expansive views of Vail Ski Resort.  The main level is organized around the courtyard and also along a central axis aligned with the main stair and featuring sunset views.  The lower level organizes itself toward the views of the Gore Range and was also designed to minimize views of the interstate highway far below.  The Rizk Residence includes a wine room, gourmet kitchen, great room area, expansive master suite with hot tub, three additional bedrooms, family room with exercise niche and wet bar, and an area to accommodate a future home theater below the heated courtyard.
